Welcome to Temple Isaiah!

Message from Rabbi Howard Jaffe

"Lo alecha hamlacha ligmor, v'lo atah Ben chorin l'hibatel mimenah" -- you are not free to complete the work, nor are you free to desist from beginning it " (Pirkei Avot 2:16)

In 1959, a small group of dedicated and visionary individuals came together to form a new congregation. With a commitment to social justice at the forefront of its mission, its founders chose the name Temple Isaiah, and set about building a sacred community dedicated to inspiring its members, challenging them to grow in their Jewish identity, Jewish learning, and Jewish commitment. From the start, they embraced innovation and creativity, and developed a culture of caring, dedication, and excellence. Now, as we prepare to conclude our 50th anniversary celebration (we have managed to enjoy it for a full year), we can truly look back and note that those who began the work could not have had any sense of just how far we would grow from that humble beginning. From a few dozen households at our founding, we number approximately 800 households today, and are proud to be the vibrant, dynamic synagogue community that we are, continuing to carry forth and build on the foundation of previous generations. Our appetite for constant innovation and creativity, coupled with our continued commitment to caring, dedication, and excellence define our sacred community.

As we firmly set foot into our second 50 years, may we continue to grow from strength to strength.
